About Dr. MacDonald
Meet Dr. James MacDonald, one of Maryland's top hip replacement surgeons with over 20 years of experience specializing in total hip replacements. As an orthopedic surgeon, he has performed over 8000 procedures and was named “Top Doc” for 15 years in a row by physicians in our area.
Our medical center offers defined clinical pathways and a sub-specialized surgeon which has proven to provide better outcomes for hip and knee replacement patients. In fact, because of our enhanced recovery protocols, patients can often go home on the same day as surgery.

Dr. Macdonald strives to improve patient outcomes through research and innovation. Actively involved in research, Dr. MacDonald was one of the original members of our Research Institute and has contributed to over 70 peer-review publications and presentations.
Turning research into action, he was locally the first surgeon to use image guidance with preoperative planning in the operating room to improve efficiency and alignment.
Through dedicated research, he hopes to achieve improved patient outcomes and care while maintaining a very low surgery complication rate.
